Otero County Marriage License Rules

Both parties must appear for the Otero County marriage license. The county says there are no exceptions to the joint appearance rule. Adults age 18 or older must prove age with a picture ID or an original or certified birth certificate. Applicants age 16 or 17 may apply only with parent or legal guardian consent or a court order, and the county notes that all parents listed on the birth certificate must sign. The responding party generally has 30 days after service to respond. The case number and judge are assigned by the clerk, and the final decree ends the marriage when signed by the judge.

A sealed or protected family matter may not appear in the public search results. Family Violence Protection Act order-of-protection cases are not displayed on public Case Lookup, and protected personal identifiers are not available on public court websites.

Certified Marriage and Divorce Copies

Certified marriage copies prove the county clerk's recorded marriage license. Certified divorce copies prove the District Court document copied from the divorce case file.
